Academics Tomás Ariztía and Tomás Undurraga organised a workshop on Natural and Energetic Laboratories: a space for discussion on ongoing research and synergies between Fondecyt projects

May 20, 2024

On Monday 13 May, at the Universidad Diego Portales, the workshop “Natural and Energy Laboratories: ongoing research workshop” was held, a seminar focused on exploring the advances and potential synergies between three Fondecyt projects that address how the concepts of “natural laboratory” and “energy laboratory” are territorialised and materialised in different contexts.

The event focused on generating a space for internal discussion on the material and work in progress of each project, and was attended by different researchers. Tomás Ariztía, principal investigator of Fondecyt Regular 1230300, presented the work on “Magallanes as an energy laboratory: practices and materialities of anticipation of green hydrogen”. Meanwhile, Tomás Undurraga, principal investigator of Fondecyt Regular 1230291, addressed the topic “Forests as a laboratory of valuations on nature”. The event also included the participation of Mauricio Onetto, principal investigator of Fondecyt Regular 1220219, who spoke on “The epistemological, historical and territorial construction of the southern zone as a natural laboratory: scientific agendas, knowledge networks and global imaginaries”.

This workshop provided a space to share research advances and fostered dialogue among academics on the intersections between natural and energy laboratories, highlighting their importance in understanding current environmental and energy challenges.
