On Friday 17 May, academics Tomás Ariztía of the Diego Portales University and Tomás Undurraga of the Alberto Hurtado University participated in the seminar “Extinguishing the Imagination” organised by the Río Seco Natural History Museum and the H2 Magallanes Citizen Panel in Punta Arenas. The event included talks, round table discussions and case studies with the aim of addressing the current situation of the industry in Magallanes, occupation and its risks, as well as governance, possible scenarios and comparative experiences.
In the round table discussion “Hydrogen situation: territorial occupation and risks in Magallanes”, Tomas Ariztia presented the paper “A new fuel for the energy transition? Problematising the futures of Green H2”. In his intervention, he analyzed the different practices of anticipation of green hydrogen in the Magallanes region, through the ethnographic analysis of fairs, demonstrations and visualizations such as renders associated with hydrogen generation. At the same time, they explored and problematised how different energy futures are projected around green hydrogen and the alternatives that have been displaced in these processes of planning and installation of this new fuel.
