Sep 6, 2023

On Wednesday 6 September 2023, the academic from Universidad Diego Portales and researcher at the Solar Energy Research Center, Tomás Ariztía, participated in the ESA RN12 and Energy & Society Conference, organised by the University of Trento in Italy. The event brought together international experts to discuss the interactions between energy, society and the environment, addressing issues such as energy transitions, climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution crises.

During his participation, Ariztía presented a paper entitled “The social lives of Green Hydrogen. Energy futures, modes of valuation and the materiality of green hydrogen in the Chilean Patagonia”. His intervention, which discussed some of the guidelines of the Fondecyt project, examined how green hydrogen is acquiring value in Chilean Patagonia, highlighting the various ways in which this resource is integrated into energy and social futures, and its potential to generate changes in the energy dynamics of the area.

The event was a key space for academic exchange, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities related to energy transitions. The conference provided an ideal framework for the discussion of the material and social implications of clean technologies in local and global contexts.
